Ultimate three days jungle adventure: meet Orangutans, explore the rainforest and enjoy river tube rafting

Explore the beautiful wildlife of Gunung Leuser National Park on this exciting three days trek. With the help of your guide, you’ll spot a variety of animals like orangutans, gibbons, thomas leaf monkeys and more other wildlife. You’ll also see beautiful trees and tropical plants. The main goal is to see orangutans in their natural habitat, where you can watch them play, swing between trees and live their daily lives. This trek offers great opportunities for an experience you will never forget.

The program

Day one: Your adventure begins around 9 AM when your expert guide picks you up from your guesthouse in Bukit Lawang. You’ll start with a walk to the parks border, where you might spot monkeys and pass by a garden and rubber plantation. Your guide will explain the local wildlife and how rubber is made. A short walk will bring you to the park entrance, where your jungle adventure begins.

On the first day, you’ll trek for about six hours. You’ll have time to rest during the trek, enjoy the program and the fresh tropical jungle fruit salad. Midway through, you’ll have lunch at a panoramic spot called ‘the jungle restaurant,’ with great views of the jungle. After lunch, you’ll continue for about three more hours to reach your campsite by the river around 4 PM. You can relax, swim and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while dinner is being prepared.

At night, enjoy a delicious traditional Indonesian meal. Afterward, gather around the candles to play games, share stories and listen to the jungle sounds under a starry sky. You’ll sleep in a tent made of bamboo and plastic sheets, falling asleep and waking up to the beautiful sounds of the rainforest.

Day two: The next morning, after breakfast, you’ll start a five hour trek deeper into the rainforest. This part of the trek offers even more chances to see wildlife. At noon, you’ll have a jungle lunch on top of a hill with fantastic views. Your second night campsite will be next to another river, where you’ll enjoy an Indonesian dinner and have time to refresh yourself in the river. Relax in the evening with card games or singing the jungle songs with your guides.

Day three: Wake up to the jungle sounds and if you’re lucky, spot Sumatran monitor lizards, tortoises and colourful butterflies around the campsite. After breakfast, you can relax and swim at a nearby waterfall. After a delicious lunch, you’ll return to Bukit Lawang with a tube rafting ride back down the river, with your own “jungle taxi” and personal captain.

NOTE: this trek requires good physical fitness.
