Epic jungle adventure: Sumatra’s rainforest from riverbeds to mountain summits
Experience an unforgettable week-long adventure in Gunung Leuser National Park, from Bukit Lawang to Kutacane. This trek takes you through the beautiful jungle, offering opportunities to see wildlife, like wild orangutans, Sumatran tiger, elephants and much more animals, includes a climb to the mountain summit.
The program
Day one: After breakfast, your guides will pick you up at 8:30 AM from your guesthouse and begin your jungle trek to see wild orangutans. The trek lasts 6-7 hours and your guides will share insights about the local wildlife, plants and trees used in traditional medicine. After lunch, you’ll continue exploring and may spot thomas’ leaf monkeys, gibbons, macaques, hornbills, peacocks and monitor lizards. In the late afternoon, you’ll set up camp near Mount Langkupby the Landak River. Enjoy the river, prepare the jungle dinner or learn jungle skills before settling down for the night.
Day two: Continue along the river, watching for wildlife drinking nearby. Your guides will set up camp before nightfall and you can relax, swim or practice building tents ‘jungle style.’
Day three: After breakfast, trek deeper into the forest in search of animals like the elusive Sumatran tiger, elephants and deer. Camp will be at Bekail.
Days four & five: Explore the rainforest and camp near the Bekail river, close to a 20-meter waterfall. Enjoy swimming, relaxing and taking in the stunning forest views.
Day six: Trek to higher altitudes, where the terrain becomes more challenging. Camp on a mossy mountaintop with beautiful views. Relax and enjoy the fresh air and jungle sounds.
Day seven: On your final day, trek downhill into the valley and arrive at the charming village of Kutacane.
