4. Jungle trekking tips & packing list – What to wear/bring

4.1 Light, breathable clothes:
– Why: the jungle is hot and humid, so you’ll sweat a lot. Wear quick-drying clothes that let your skin breathe.
– Long sleeves and pants: even though it’s warm, long clothes protect you from bugs and plants that might sting or itch. Light colors like brown, beige and green are great because they don’t attract mosquitoes or scare animals. Avoid bright or dark colors.
– Bonus Tip: wear long socks to cover any gaps between your shoes and pants!

4.2 Comfortable hiking boots or sneakers:
– Why: the jungle floor is muddy and slippery. Shoes with good grip and ankle support will keep you steady.
– Quick-dry shoes: if you’re crossing rivers, bring sandals or flip-flops too.

4.3 A small daypack (25-35 liters):
– Why: you’ll only need to carry personal things like water and essentials. The trekking team will take care of the heavy stuff (tents, sleeping bag, food, etc.).
– Rain cover: don’t forget a rain cover for your backpack, because it can rain at any time.

4.4 Insect repellent, sunblock and a hat. To stay safe from bugs & sun
– Why: bug bites are annoying and can make you sick, so always use repellent.
– Why: even under the trees, the sun is strong in the jungle. Protect your skin from sunburn with sunscreen and a hat.

4.5 Bring your own medicine:
Essentials are: anti-diarrhea meds, rehydration salts, antihistamines (for allergies), aspirin and antibiotics.
– Why: medical help might be far away, so bring what you might need.

5. At the campsite

5.1 Bring the right clothing
– Clothes for the day: light T-shirts and shorts will keep you comfy in the afternoon.
– Clothes for the night: pack warm, long-sleeved shirts, pants and socks to stay cozy in the cooler evenings.
– Always keep a dry outfit: save one set of dry clothes for when you’re done trekking.
– Other essentials for camping:
– Swimsuit, sunglasses, sandals/flip-flops, raincoat, toilet paper, flashlight, quick-dry towel and personal hygiene stuff (soap, toothbrush, deodorant, etc.).

5.2 Protect your electronics
– Keep them dry:
– Why: the jungle is super wet, so pack your electronics (camera, phone, etc.) in waterproof bags. Keep a rain cover on your backpack too.

5.3 Stay safe with the guides:
– Follow the rules: listen to your jungle guides, they know the best ways to keep you safe and help you see amazing animals like the Sumatran orangutans.

By following these tips and packing smart, your jungle adventure will be safe, fun and unforgettable!
