The program
Day one: Your adventure begins at 9 AM when your guide picks you up from your guesthouse after breakfast in Bukit Lawang. You’ll start by walking along the river, then head uphill through rubber plantations toward the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park.
Once inside the jungle, you’ll have a chance to spot Sumatran orangutans. These amazing creatures are often seen swinging through the trees and caring for their babies, a sight you’ll never forget.
As you continue trekking, you’ll stop for a snack of fresh tropical fruits before hiking to a viewpoint that offers great views of the Bohorok river and the Gunung Leuser National Park.
After a jungle lunch, the trek continues as you discover more wildlife, like long tail macaques, pig tail macaques, thomas leaf monkeys and monitor lizards. By 4 PM, you’ll arrive at your campsite near a waterfall or riverside, where you can relax with a cup of tea or coffee. Take a refreshing swim while your guides prepare a delicious dinner of curry, rice and other local dishes.
End your day by the campfire, chatting with your guides or playing card games before you go to sleep under your jungle tent, listening by the sounds of the forest.
Day two: Wake up in the heart of the rainforest and enjoy a homemade breakfast. Afterward, you’ll continue trekking for about four hours, explore the jungle and spot more wildlife.
Lunch will be served in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by the sounds of nature. After lunch, you’ll trek for another three hours to reach your second campsite. Here, you can relax and take a swim in the river or under a waterfall.
Dinner will be served around the campfire, where you can listen to your guide’s amazing jungle stories before resting up for your next adventure filled day.
Day three: After a second night in the jungle, you’ll feel like a true adventurer. Enjoy breakfast at your campsite before setting out on your third day of trekking, which will last 4 to 6 hours.
Along the way, you’ll take breaks to spot the incredible wildlife, including up to eight species of monkeys such as the Sumatran orangutan, long tail macaques, thomas leaf monkeys and more. You might also see rare birds like the great argus or hornbills.
After lunch, continue trekking to a new campsite, where you can relax and swim in the river. After dinner, you can either rest or join a night trek to spot nocturnal animals, giving you a chance to see creatures that are harder to find during the day.
Day four: After breakfast, you’ll dive deeper into the rainforest, exploring hidden rivers and creeks and swimming in waterfalls.
Lunch will be taken in the jungle, surrounded by its unique atmosphere. Afterward, continue trekking and learn about the plants and medicinal herbs found in the forest.
At your final campsite, you can relax with a cup of tea or coffee while waiting for dinner. If you’re up for it, another night trek can be arranged to observe nocturnal wildlife. Enjoy your last night in the jungle far from civilization.
Day five: On your last morning, after breakfast, you can choose how far and how long you want to trek, based on your preferences.
By now, you’ll have gained jungle survival skills and feel like a true jungle explorer. After a final lunch in the jungle, your adventure ends with a fun and refreshing experience: a traditional tubing ride down the Bohorok River, known as the “jungle taxi.” You’ll be back at your guesthouse by 2 or 3 PM, full of memories and stories to tell.
